Facts on Fats

I have never been turned on by skinny woman.

It's true. I will rather hug a pillow, than a bag of bones.
Slightly chubby > Very skinny

Thus I'm always full of question marks on why "normal weight" woman are so obsessed with weight loss.
People should ONLY lose weight for health reasons, like high blood pressure, artherosclerosis and diabetes.

I am already imagining my female readers saying things like
(1) You are not a woman, so you will never understand.
(2) Woman lose weight because you guys are superficial creatures.

I chatted with a taxi driver, and was told on how he managed to lose about 30 kg using the traditional method of
(1) mild exercise
(2) long daily walks with his Wifey
(3) eating normal portions instead of upsized portions
I was quite impressed, noting his taxi driving schedule, that he still found time to keep himself healthy.

Some of us (guys included) prefer the shortcuts, taking those weight loss pills/surgery, many of which are unsustainable and probably detrimental to health without us realising it.

I shall share with you some facts on fats here, to debunk some of the myths here, based on my readings and understanding of the subject.

(1) Fats are a MUST to have
Fats provide energy, build healthy cells, make hormones, cushions your body organs and provide healthier skins.
In fact, your brains are mostly fats.
Take it out and have a look. =p
Fats do more work than what your office boss does!
Fats > Boss (Fact)

(2) Bad fats are not that bad
Fats are generally classified as HDL (good fats) and LDL (bad fats).
The bad fats are "bad" because they oxidise easily and cause inflammation. Thats why arteries get choked.
However, bad fats are neccessary in our diet. It is interesting to note that if you don't consume enough bad fats, your body will produce them.

(3) HDL/LDL Ratio
A measurement of how good your fats are is to use the HDL/LDL ratio.
The higher the better (ie. more HDL, less LDL).
When those silly people take those fat blocking/absorbing pills to lose weight, the pills will take away BOTH the LDL and HDL.
Stop doing harm to yourself.

(4) Your skin is dry
Ever seen fat people with dry skin?
Skin is dry because of fatty acid deficiency.

(5) Omega-3 != Omega-6
Omega-3 does wonders, but Omega-6 is evil.
Omega-3 comes from seaweed and fish.
Omega-6 comes from vegetables oils (for those who think that vege oils are healthy)

(6) Bow to the mighty Omega-3
Recently, ChannelNewsAsia shown a documentary on Omega-3 (aka fish oil), illustrating the benefits of this nutrition.
I stolen some of the benefits from another website, as follows.
- Lowers the risk of breast and colon cancer
- Improve learning and attention span in school-children
- Improve cognitive function in the elderly
- Elevate mood, resulting in less depression
- Lower the risk of cardiovascular disease
- Promote healthy skin
- Improve vision, especially night vision

(7) Trans Fats are evil
They are evil because it not just raises your LDL, but lowers your HDL, so your HDL/LDL ratio becomes damn low.
Trans fats are getting more recognition worldwide on their El Nino effect to the body.
I'll leave you to do your own homework to find out which food has trans fat. You will be amazed at how some of the good food that your mama gets you to eat daily are EVIL.

(8) Most people who suffer from heart attack do not have high cholesterol
They just have high LDL that are inflammed.

Get the facts right.
Fats are essential for health!
But at the same time, be wary of what type of fats you consume.

So the next time someone says you are fat, be polite and thank him.
