For those who can't swim, you know u are gonna die.
For those who can, assume you have muscle cram.
Either way, you are going down.
Then suddenly, you hear demonic voices offering you the chance to live again, in exchange for ONE of the following.
(1) hearing (ears)
(2) touch (hands)
(3) movement (legs)
(4) speech (mouth)
(5) sight (eyes)
or even
(6) erectile dysfunctional (ok, just trying to be funny)
Which one of these can you most afford to lose?
Yes, this may appear to be a little silly question.
But it set me thinking hard years ago.
My conclusion, the things I can afford to lose, for (1) - (5) are in the following ascending order for "loseability".
(A) Voice
I can't speak, but I can POOKING hear what you are saying.
Losing the Weapon of Self Destruction may end up being a blessing in disguise.
(B) Ears
I have seen plenty of deaf people who live a close to normal life.
They can still shop, walk and communicate via sign language.
Though they can't chat on the handphone, but I figure its probably a good thing.
btw, losing the hearing tends to come as a package with losing the voice.
(C) Legs
Immobility sucks. There's so much places I can't go, though I have to credit the Singapore gahmen for making it more friendly for us. I love my physical freedom way too much.
(D) Hands
I probably have to resort to using the mouth to hold on to plastic bags when I go shopping at NTUC. I have seen people using their mouths to pull trucks, so guess I might have to learn that.
Will have to learn to use my nose to type the keyboard, the chin to move the mouse, though there are bound to be better methods.
(E) Eyes
Darkness sucks. Without sight, I lose my direction.
You can't see what you eat.
You can't see where you go.
I have always admire those blind guys doing massaging. Somehow, they are independent enough to know how to get to the bus-stop, and they can sense their alighting bus-stops. These guys have terrific memories.
I respect and love you guys.
Either way, we all love our (1) - (6), just that we tend to take them for granted.
So please be nice to those who do not have either of them.
Because you will never know if someday, sometime, you might lose one (or more) of it.
And above all, never lose your pride.
In work and at home.
Have a great Monday ahead.
