Prevention is cheaper than cure.

There are 2 types of people in the world.
(1) Those who die a natural death
(2) Those who die due to diseases

I know plenty of people who died of the latter, and I'm sure you do too.

Diseases can be classified as
(1) Infectious diseases (cholera, tubercolosis etc...)
(2) Degenerative diseases

Infectious Diseases can be spread from one person to another via the air, dirty water etc... The good thing is that this is now a illness of the past. The introduction of Penicillin (now available in many forms) has become a natural combatant.

Degenerative Diseases are the new age disease. For every 3 people in Singapore that dies of a disease, 2 of them will suffer the below top 5 diseases are (in no particular order)
(1) Coronary heart diseases
(2) Cancer
(3) Stroke
(4) Diabetes
(5) Respiratory diseases (I could be wrong on the last one)

Yes, that's 66%.
Will you be one of them?

The problem I forsee with Singapore's medical landscape is that too much emphasis is on the cure, rather than the prevention. To understand why, you need to understand doctors versus nutritionists.

Doctors contribute to your well-being by prescribing drugs AFTER you are ill.
Nutritionists contribute to your well-being by telling you what you should do BEFORE you get ill.

The problem with Singaporeans (and most people around the world) is that no one bothers talking to the nutritionists. They will just go on with their life, leaving things to fate, and then one day, they kenna one of the listed degenerative illnesses.
And then they start finding the all-mighty doctors for help. And the unfortunate ones get referred to the hospitals for "more investigations".
And after the "investigations", they were told they kenna cancer or something, and they get devastated.

Why do "healthy-looking" people get degenerative illnesses out of the blue?
Wake up, Singapore!
Most doctors do not understand nutrition well-enough.
Most medical schools either do not even touch on the subject, or gives minimal coverage. I don't blame them, doctors are the fill-time disease-killers, part-time health-protectors.
That's why some will tell you vitamins are "expensive urine", and most will tell you the motherhood statements.
(1) Eat more fruits and vegetables.
(2) Exercise regularly.
(3) Refrain from smoking and excessive alcohol.

Zzzz.... tell us something that we do not already know.

Even the current 2 fruits, 2 vegetables per day campaign is not sufficient.

My mum once told me that its better to die quick, then to die slowly and inflict monetary and emotional pain to those who love you.

Prevention is not just better than cure.
It's cheaper than going for surgery + treatments + hospital stays + medications + emotional pains.

To my readers who cannot be bothered about nutrition.
Enjoy life to the fullest, and good luck.
