The Kampung Spirit

This entry will cross over racial boundaries.
Disclaimer: It is based solely my observation, with no intentions of favouritism or sarcasm to any religion.

I am proud to be a Chinese, but I have tremendous respect for Malay families.

The typical SG Malay family that I see have their door open. Friends and relatives visit each other over the weekends. Its like having a party/reunion dinner every weekend.
The typical SG Chinese family prefer to mind their own business. They are more concerned with their own family's welfare. Some of the neighbours pretend I'm invisible when I try to catch their attention to say "Hi". It feels cold sometimes. But of course, there are also neighbourhood aunties whom I can relate and chat to. But our relatives seldom visit one another.

The typical SG Malay wedding is lively. It's fun! I used to observe how Malays have their weddings at void decks. There is alot of interaction going around. Its like a festival, a fiesta.
The typical SG Chinese wedding is held mostly on rsetaurants. There, most people mingles only with people on their own table of 10. And some appears to be more concerned about service and the quality of food that is served. Why does shark fin soup taste so dilute? 0.0||| And most of us arrive late. Where is the love?

The typical SG Malay Hari Raya has Malay family wearing their traditional costumes, and they have this colour matching scheme. They also ask for forgiveness in disputes. It's all about unity.
The typical SG Chinese New Year has Chinese families wearing anything but their traditional costumes. Where's our sense of identity? Even as a kid, I was more concerned about how much angpows I get, as opposed to the long-lost relatives.

In the pursuit of money and protecting your family, do not lose the sense of identity, and the ability to love your friends and relatives.

I'm proud to be a Chinese nonetheless.
But let's inject the kampung spirit! ^_^
