Since my secondary school days, I have frequented the arcade like a 3rd home (after home and school), and gotten to know alot of new friends, and a few jerks.
Everyone hopes to be the best, be it the fighting games, the puzzles, or the para para / DDR machines.
Serious gamers are attention whores. We take pride in winning, especially when watched by onlookers. We do amazing combos and try to take out our opponent in the shortest possible time. We do research, we learn from losses and we practise till perfection.
Winning isn't everything, but losing makes you nothing.
Gaming is not just a game, it is a passion.
No one likes to lose.
Mr Ego's head is on the chopping board.
Gaming under pressure is a good way to separate the gentlemen from the sore losers.
Gentlemen dislike losing too, but they graciously accept their defeat.
Sore losers, I have met plenty. Those who call people "cheaters", those who threaten you to beat you up, those who slam the machine after losing, I have seen them all.
With the shift of popularity from arcade to online gaming, I have quitted my arcade days, but this Mr Ego inside me remains.
And it can be put to good use, to bring me many steps further.
Do not underestimate a serious gamer's ego.
We have serious determination to achieve what we want.
One target set, one target down.
