A mother's love

What's some of the bigger things that your mum went out of the way to do, to show her concern for you?

My mum recently learnt how to SMS, and she's learning some basic English words. And I think she did them just to communicate to my sister and I when we are busy.

SMS and picking up English are simple and taken for granted by many of us, but it's rocket science for a woman in her 60s who has always discarded technology, and never spoke English for 60 years.

That's the power of a mother's love. And it moved me.

Congrats to your mom for picking up a new skill.

A parent's love is unconditional.

My mom wanted the best for me and my siblings. She loved us and perhaps wanted us to have the opportunity to do alot of things she never had the chance to do in her lifetime. This is not uncommon. I quit learning to play the piano few years after her passing away...coz it was more of what she wanted rather than me wanting it for myself.

I just installed a Skype account for my mum, in case I'm in Asia next year, we can talk, hehe. She's 52, still young and she knows how to SMS, not in English, though. But not needed, since we speak Slovene ;)

yea, a mother's love is huge. Even though at times, i can be really angry with my mother for doing certain things that i can never understand. But it would turn out to be good for me.

P/S - Is shingo becoming a father soon? ;p

Reminds me of how my grandmother used to make my father master English at school even though she knows next to nothing about the language.

Every Singaporean who is the first generation to speak good English is a miracle.

Moving indeed. Like the way my mum - who don't speak english - try to say a few simple words to my niece.

I'm happy for her for picking up this new skill too.

Kelvin:
Agreed. It's the subtle little things in life that sometimes stand out in a life of mediocricy.

Mei Teng:
well, at least you knew how to played the piano, even though now you might be a little rusty. I wished my mum could force me to play some musical instrument when I was younger.

MKL:
wow, your mum is young. Working backwards, she had you in her early 20s. bet you must be close to your mum, I don't even contact my mum when I'm overseas.

Cherish Tulips:
I guessed maybe you see your mum more often, so there's no need to SMS.

Bananaz:
I hope when I'm old, I'm just as receptive to these new gadgets.

foongpc:
haha, it can move mountains, and oceans also.

cheahs@n:
Yup. The things that people do for love is amazing.

Sharon:
All mums are sweet in their own ways. Someday you will be this sweet too. =p

misscindee:
my mum peels off grape skin too. Now that I'm no longer living with her, I just eat the skin. Me too lazy.

Roxy:
Me a father? Gosh, you knew something that I don't know. =p

iamthewitch:
haha, she will be commenting on my blog soon, for all you know. Haha, can't imagine my mum with a Facebook profile.

Toothfairy:
I have a feeling your mum is also quite young. Gut feel.

numbernine:
Your grandma has great foresight!

mrdes:
Nice of your mum to learn a little English to connect with the little ones.

wenn:
I'm sure your mum is just as great, but in different ways.
