The truth about pretty ladies on the street

During my uni days, I was active in a group of arcade gamers. During one of the dinners we had, one of the gamers who was single (his nick was Teru) gave this quote which I very much agree.

"I fall in love easily, but once I get attached, I will remain very faithful to her."

How true. I have my fair share of crushes, and though most of the crushes last for many many years, it seem that at any point of time, there will always be a gal I will be infatuated with.

After I broke off with my first girlfriend, I broke away from "depression" in less than a month and fell in love with the next lady, someone I now called Wifey.

Getting attached shortly after your ex-girlfriend does not mean that I was never serious about the relationship. I was, but only when we were a couple. The moment she suggested a breakoff, and that I tried all my means to win her back but failed, I knew I had to move on.

To start looking for someone else to love. And I'm glad I did.

Even though I'm happily married, it does not mean that the pretty young things on the street no longer capture my eyes. After all, working in the CBD (central business district) area means there's plenty of well-dressed pretty office ladies around. And hey, I would rate the office lady attire higher than any of those nurse, schoolgirl fetishes that most man may have.

Quoting from Jim Ross, the famous WWE announcer, "Just because you have ordered doesn't mean you can't look at the menu." And Jim is a grandfather, happily married to both his wife and his announcing job.

There is nothing wrong looking at flowers, so long as you don't touch or pluck them. But there is one thing that all man should bear in mind.

Pretty ladies on the street will NEVER grow old.

What do I mean by this?

Today, when you go on the streets, you should be able to see some pretty ladies.
The same will happen in 10 years, 20 years, 50 years time.

The pretty lady that you see today will be an old auntie in 20 years time.
But in 20 years time, you will see another pretty lady.
Because pretty girls on the street are people you do not know, there is generally no differentiation between the pretty strager you saw today, and the one you will see in 20 years time.

As such, they "never" grow old!

But you grow old.
Your parents grow old.
And your wife grow old.

A married man should have the mentality of getting a computer. Generation after generation of computers will only get better, and more value for money. But does that mean we wait forever trying to get the "best" computer?

No. We get a computer as early as we find a "good enough" one.

Pretty girls on the street will change, but your wife is the only one that will remember and understand you the way you are.

Stay attached and love your other half, and you will reap accumulative happiness and gains.

Random Notes 33

(1) It's pretty funny, how fellow Malaysian blogger Pinkpau is back in US from London, and Kikey is going from US to London. Rock on, Malaysian globetrotters! Show the world how truly Asia we are!

(2) Check out Pinkpau's picture entry on London, featuring the places she likes.

(3) I watched my first pay-per-view last night. S$12+ for a 3 hr Royal Rumble (wrestling). More expensive than a movie ticket, but watching TV with Wifey at OUR home is priceless, k? =p

(4) I can no longer put myself in the shoes of single folks anymore. Why do people choose to remain single when they can be married? Singles probably will ask me the reverse question, I guess.

(5) Chinese New Year (CNY) was celebrated back in Malaysia. Good to see my beloved Granny being healthier than the last time I saw her. She's about 90 years old, but still fairly healthy. That's what you get from a good vegetarian diet I guess.

(6) Someone once told me that CNY in Singapore has no atmosphere. It seems so incomplete without fireworks and firecrackers throughout the night. I'm glad I could bring Wifey back to Malaysia to enjoy the luminous eye candy. But Singapore ban it for an appropriate reason, they could be really dangerous, just think about the Thailand disco fire thingy.

(7) No white, no black, just grey. No good man is a saint. And all sinners have some merits.

(8) Obama does more for the environment in weeks than what former Bush did in 8 years? Good one! Hope Obama does something about that silly America Gun Association too (or whatever you call it). I rather the world not carry a gun, than for every family to hold one.

(9) Horse investment, ever heard of it? Someone I know has won 80k by rearing a horse and letting it win matches at Singapore Turf Club. Interesting.

(10) Lovely quote from Today (the newspapers): When life gives you lemons, turn them to lemonades!

The Butterfly Effect

I have made a little permanent change in my lifestyle.
Let me first begin by sharing a theory and 2 stories.

The Theory
Most of us know that sleeping early at night is bad. Traditional Chinese medicine theory speaks of the body organs resting at different times. The liver - the body's main detoxifying organ other than the kidney, needs to rest at 11pm after a long day at work. Without sufficient rest, the liver will not cleanse the body that well. Negligence of the liver will inevitably lead to other organs being unhealthy.

This explains why most of us, after the partying, sleeping late in the wee hours and then waking up the next day, will feel lethargic, even if you rested 8-10 hours. The whole idea is that it is not just how much you sleep, but how early you sleep.

A similar experiment was done with laboratory rats. Putting 1 group of mice on threadmills so that whenever they fall asleep, the threadmill will move and wake them up, making it impossible for them to sleep. After a few days of interrupted sleep, these mices are allowed to sleep for as long as they like, uninterrupted for the next 2-3 weeks (ie. let them catch up on rest). After which, this group of mice are put on the mice maze, and timed to see how long they take to leave the maze - a test of their memory and coordination. They took significantly longer than mice that are allowed to sleep on regular hours.

Story 1
During my stay in my ex-company, I have made many good friends. One of the friends I have made is a Muslim father, who sleep early at night and wake up at 4am+ everyday. And yes, that includes weekdays. I am not sure why he got up so early, but it should be safe to assume it should be for his prayers, knowing him as a devoted Muslim. Isn't it wonderful that he can do something he likes after he gets up, rather than prepare for work immediately?

Story 2
One of the greatest incentive for me to be rich, is for freedom. The freedom to wake up, do some jogging, read the papers, sip the coffee, and then slowly prepare for work. This freedom can also be achieved by not taking a 9 to 5pm job, like being an insurance agent or tuition teacher. But they don't provide the stable salary that I need, especially now that Wifey is back to being a taitai again.

So what I actually adjusted..
A mediocre life calls for a simple yet radical change. If sleeping late was so evil, then heck, I should sleep early.

If I have to enjoy my freedom in the morning, then I just have to wake up earlier. While the common folks out there wake up to go to work, I want to wake up and enjoy life first!

For the past few weeks, I have started this new lifestyle, sleeping early and waking up earlier. This is a complete overhaul of my sleeping habits, when I used to sleep between 12-1am and wake up just in time for work.

I have at least another 30 years of worklife, assuming no successful business ventures or lottery wins. The least I can do for myself is to make myself happier and healthier. Health is accumulative, its always easier to take precautions against a late sleeping habit than to live with the consequences later.

No more late night TV - wrestling shows can now be recorded.
No more late night gaming - gaming should never consume my life.
No late night mahjong - hey, it's not as if I do so in the first place.

In return, say yes to
- Doing serious Tae-bo workouts in the morning.
- Picking up Paso Doble (thats the Spanish bullfight dance), which is a really fierce looking matador dance
- Basic Jive.
- Sipping morning drinks while reading newspapers and articles, or even watching Primetime Morning on TV, without having the urgency to rush for work.

The Butterfly Effect theory states that a butterfly flapping its wings will create tiny changes in the atmosphere that will ultimately alter the path of a tornado.

I chose to flap my wings, now let me see what tornado I can create.

Best job in the world!

I was browsing the newspapers on Saturday when I accidentally (I'm serious) came across this ad on the Recruit section.

Best job in the world!

And nope, I'm not talking about Google. That's probably many notches below this job.

And the title?
Island Caretaker!!!

1/2 year contract, paying AUD$150,000 (that's equivalent to S$156,656) as caretaker of Hamiltion island on the Great barrier Reef. Housing is paid for too, a 3-bedroom beach home with plunge pool and a buggy too.

Job scope covers collecting mails, feeding the fish, snorkel the reef, cleaning the pool, and to discover and blog about the island.

Prerequisites are simple too, a good swimmer, excellent communicator and able to speak and write good English (presume being a blogger will help too).

This isn't a scam, its a genuine advertisement put up by the Australian Tourism Board. Selected candidates will be flown over the island for interview.

According to to the Australian authority, this campaign was part of a drive to protect the state's tourism industry during the current tough economic climate.

A great marketing move, I say. Successful candidate will blog about his life on the beautiful island and sea, and hopefully attract more people to the place.

But heard the job gotten so popular that their website burst. After all, they have put the advertisement in the newspapers of about 16 countries.

For more details, go visit http://www.islandreefjob.com.

And if you get the job, you have me to thanks! =p

Car in the woods

Knowing too little can hurt you more than you can imagine, as the short story below illustrates. =p

---------------

Little Johnny watched his daddy's car pass by the school playground and go into the woods. Curious, he followed the car and saw Daddy and Aunt Jane in a passionate embrace.

Little Johnny found this so exciting that he could hardly contain himself as he ran home and started to tell his mother.

'Mummy, I was at the playground and I saw Daddy's car go into the woods with Aunt Jane. I went back to look and he was giving Aunt Jane a big kiss, and then he helped her take off her shirt. Then Aunt Jane helped Daddy take his pants off, then Aunt Jane...'

At this point Mummy cut him off and said, 'Johnny, this is such an interesting story, lets save the rest of it for supper time. I want to see the look on Daddy's face when you tell it tonight.'

At the dinner table that evening, Mummy asked little Johnny to tell his story. Johnny started his story,

'I was at the playground and I saw Daddy's car go into the woods with Aunt Jane. I went back to look and he was giving Aunt Jane a big kiss, then he helped her take off her shirt. Then Aunt Jane helped Daddy take his pants off, then Aunt Jane and Daddy started doing the same thing that Mummy and Uncle Bill used to do when Daddy was away on the rigs.'

Very interesting to see 'who' your friends are!

(10-16 points) You are Garfield :
You are very comfortable, easy going, and you definitely know how to have fun but sometimes you take it to an extreme. You always know what you are doing and you are always in control of your life. Others may not see things as you do, but that doesn't mean that you always have to do what is right. Try to remember, your happy spirit may hurt you or others.

(17-23 points) You are Snoopy:
You are fun; you are very cool and popular. You alw ays know what's in and you ' re never out of style , you are good at knowing how to satisfy everyone else. You have probably disappeared for a few days more than once but you always come home with the family values that you learned Being married and having children are important to you, but only after you have had your share of fun times

(24-28 points) You are Elmo:
You have lots of friends and you are also popular, always willing to give advice and help out a person in need. You are very optimistic and you always see the bright side of things. Some good advice: try not to be too much of a dreamer. Dreaming too big could cause many conflicts in y o ur life.

(29-35 points) You are Sponge Bob Square Pants:
You are the classic person that everyone loves. You are the best friend that anyone could ever have and never wants t o lose. You never cause harm to anyone and they would never not understand your feelings. Life is a journey, it's funny and calm for the most part Stay away from traitors and jealous people and you will be stress free.

(36-43 points) You are Charlie Brown:
You are tender, you fall in love quickly but you are also very serious about all relationships.. You are a family person. You call your Mom every Sunday. You have many friends and may occasionally forget a few Birthdays. Don't let your passion confuse you with reality.

(44-50 points ) You are Dexter:
You are smart and definitely a thinker... Every situation is fronted with a plan. You have a brilliant mind. You demonstrate very strong family principles. You maintain a stable routine but neve r ignore a bad situation when it comes. Try to do less over thinking every once in a while to spice things up a bit with spontaneity!

Pescetarian

According to Wikipedia, a pescetarian is a person who eats any combination of vegetables, fruit, nuts, beans and fish or invertebrate seafood.

And Limpeh is into my 2nd week of being one.
No chicken, no pork, no duck, no other funny animals in my diet.

So why the sudden change, you ask.
(1) I ate quite a lot of unhealthy food during my vacation in Hong Kong. Time to do a minor detox for the body.
(2) Some months back, I made a personal bet to myself to reach a particular target. Well, I didn’t make it and was supposed to go on a “meatless” diet of 1 month to punish myself. So here I am, living up to my end of the bargain.

So here I am, being a pescetarian for a period of one month. Will start consuming meat again at Chinese New Year’s Eve.

How’s life as a pescetarian you may wonder.
Painful. Not because I can’t consume poultry, but because of the lack of food choices.
going around the kopitiam, you realise that almost every stall sells meat. And only a few stalls for me to choose from.
No chicken rice, no loh mee, no curry chicken noodles, no fishball noodles (they have very small pork in it),

So I ended up eating “vegetable” rice (cai4 fan4) almost every meal, with the occasional carrot cake or vegetarian food.

A Pescetarianism diet is scientifically proven to help in memory problems, which is something Wifey can vouch that I need. This is due to the Omega-3 oil found in these food (not to be confused with Omega-6, which does the complete opposite).

So ya, Limpeh is less likely to develop Alzheimer’s and dementia for this month.
Haha.

Anyway, this challenge will start off my 2009 New Year Resolution, which I will share with you guys soon (so as to keep myself in track).
Life is an ever-learning process, and setting targets will make me realize my goals easier, and sooner.

Have a great new year, everyone!
May your life be blessed, and be kind to both animals and friends.
